About the African Centre for the Study of the United States (ACSUS)

ACSUS was launched in March 2018. Since its launch ACSUS has rapidly grown to become the definitive hub for Africa-generated knowledge and nuanced understandings of the US as a nation and society.

ACSUS is the first Centre of its kind on the African continent, created to turn a nuanced and analytical African gaze on the US. In its short lifespan, the Centre is beginning to redress the imbalance in the knowledge flow between the US and Africa. We are building extensive, multi and interdisciplinary, incisive and cutting-edge perspectives on America as a society, nation and global power.

The Centre pursues its knowledge-production vision through four overarching and interconnected mission areas:  a) research and publication b) teaching c) outreach and exchanges, and, d) Public engagement
